Safe sound levels are allowed to pass through, while potentially damaging noises (above 85dB) are reduced using a proprietary design incorporating the patented Hocks Noise Braker filter. This enables the EP6s to convert potentially harmful sound levels into harmless energy.

Testing

NRR testing is done in a quiet environment; however, hearing protection is not needed in quiet environments. EP6s are primarily for use in dangerous and noisy environments (above 85dB). NRR is based on attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of protection attainable against impulse noise such as gunfire. Manufacturer has conducted independent testing and found EP6 earpieces to be effective in helping protect against impulse noise as well as continuous noise. The louder the environment, the more the attenuation. Starting at a noise level of 80dB, an attenuation of 26dB is achieved, rising to a value of 34dB at a noise level of 90dB. Attenuation levels remain at an average of roughly 35dB up to a noise level of 120dB. Example: if the noise level is 110dB, EP6s will attenuate the sound to 74dB, well below the dangerous noise threshold of 85dB. Note: To block lower-level noise in quieter situations, such as in an airplane or while sleeping, attached stopper plugs can be inserted.
