Traditional method of applying an infrared filter over a xenon light to provide supplemental infrared illumination has several drawbacks. One of the most critical disadvantage is during the transitioning from IR to white light, which often occurs at the most critical juncture, leaving little time for the operator to take the triggering finger off the trigger only to flip open the IR filter. Another reason that the application of IR filter is not desirable for modern day tactical illumination is the introduction of Luxeon LED light as the primary light source. The white light generated by Luxeon LED lacks infrared component. As a result, the application of IR filter over the head of Luxeon LED light will not generate any significant level of infrared illumination for supplementing NVG. MD2 LED NVGLight is designed with a side IR illuminator for providing IR illumination without giving up many advantages of utilizing Luxeon LED as the primary light source. With the independent high-power side IR illuminator, tactical operator will always have white light at any time on demand. Unlike the IR filtered xenon light which is weak and often inadequate, the side IR illuminator provides powerful infrared light that projects a perfect spot out to 300 meters in distance. Luxeon LED is power efficient, shockproof and long-lasting that will not burn out like incandescent lamps at the most critical moment. It is electronically regulated by the sophisticated onboard electronics for sustaining the longest possible duration of at least 90 minutes at peak brightness. It is suitable for long missions since the Luxeon LED will continue to provide diminishing light output for 2 to 3 hours after the peak duration. The integrated ultra compact A.R.M.S. #17S throw lever mount easily engages and disengages the light from the Picantinney rail. Manufactured by high precision CNC machine from aerospace grade aluminum with anti-abrasive, anti-corrosive, and anti-reflective military spec Type III hard anodized exterior finish, MD2 LED NVGLight is rugged and durable for illumination in the most critical environments. The anti-reflective finish reduces glare and minimizes signature in ensuring stealth. MD2 LED NVGLight is preconfigured with TR3 straight-cord tri-mode remote pressure pad switch. Positioned in momentary mode, the light can be activated by pressing the remote pressure pad. Turn tail-cap slightly to position in constant-on mode. Constant-on switches light on continuously without pressing, and is also useful in the event of remote pressure pad or cord failure. The pentagonal shape tail-cap facilitates rotation for operating the switch mechanism, including positioning the switch in lockout mode. This tail-cap is compact and light-weight, allowing the system to have better form factor. An independent recessed push ON/OFF tail-cap switch easily activates the side IR illuminator. The pentagonal shape tail-cap facilitates its rotation for placing the remote tail-cap switch in safety lock-out position. Each MD2 NVGLight is individually serialized for inventory control. The unit can be easily serviced in the field with a Field Service Kit, including the option of replacing the front tempered glass lens if it is damaged during an unexpected frontal impact. Since both the primary light and the side IR illuminator are LED based, the entire system is shock-proof, recoil-proof, and electronically controlled, making MD2 LED NVGLight one of the most advanced tactical light system engineered by PentagonLight™ for the military and law enforcement agencies that require supplemental IR illumination in addition to a powerful white light.
