The War

While in operation in Iraq I had three multi tools and my being the armor (the one who fixes the weapons) I used all three like it was a religion. Well one day I had to repair a weapon fast and in the field with bullets flying by, so I grabbed the first one off my belt and it happened to be the Gerber tool the army issued. It broke the first instant I put it upon the nut.
So I cursed many times and then grabbed the next one and it was the Wave, the very same one my dad gave me right before deployment, and I don’t know if the Good Lord was looking upon me, my dads give, or it was just one #@*&ed good tool but it got the nut off then back on again and may have just saved one good solider. After that I will never own a Gerber again; Leatherman forever. Thank you for such a good tool.

I am a Marine and currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. We, as Marines, have an annual event called the Rifle Range to test our proficiency with a weapon. It was mid April here and it was raining like no other. I have a Leatherman Charge that just so happens to be nice on the rifle range because I can make front site tip adjustments quite easily. I was using this amazing creation to do so and the Marines around me asked if they could borrow it. The next thing I knew, I was walking down the entire firing line trying to track down my Leatherman. Luckily I did and it was just fine.
Just so you know, there were at least 150 Marines on the firing line and many of the Marines were so impressed with the Leatherman that the next day at least 50 or 60 of them had their own - black and silver Charges, Waves, and an assortment of others - if that isn't applied advertising I don't know what is.
I have owned several Leatherman for the past 8 years and would never trust another brand. I have tried several, but won't trust 'em as much as I do a Leatherman. There are more stories where that one came from, too.

My Wife Saved My Life

We were on a holiday in the African bush when the following happened. It is interesting to note that we were an hours drive of rough 4X4 into the mountains (no cell phone reception) and that half an hour before my wife had to use the WAVE to perform an emergency tracheotomy I was sitting in the camp sharpening the WAVE's blades.....
MacGyver Mom Saves Husband, Johannesburg - In a dramatic, desperate effort to save her husband, a woman from Springs performed an emergency incision with a Leatherman WAVE into his windpipe and used the shaft of a Bic pen to help him breathe. Louis, 40, and Heidi Hennings were on a Bushveld holiday far from civilization in Limpopo when a wasp flew up under his hat and stung him several times. Although he had never before had an allergic reaction to a wasp sting, he could immediately sense a violent reaction. He said: "I became dizzy and told Heidi that if my throat became constricted, she should force a petrol siphon pipe down my throat so that I did not suffocate." Heidi says Louis "keeled over" and his face immediately began to swell up. "His jaws were shut tight and we couldn't get the pipe down his throat. He became blue and there was no pulse." Heidi, who is a qualified nurse, said a "strange, calm feeling" gripped her. "I took my nephew's knife, cut a hole in Louis's throat and put the pen into it (the windpipe)." She then thumped his chest with her fist to get his heart going again, and gave her nephew a crash course in heart massage, to boot. Louis regained consciousness within an hour. The first words he heard were: "Lay still, Louis, I've cut a hole in your throat," as well as cries of "Thank you, Lord" from his friends and family. Louis, a service manager and father of two was up and about again after two days in Polokwane Hospital and the family could resume their holiday once more. A thankful Heidi said: "We really appreciate each other and life once again."

I Fixed My Friend's $50 Airsoft Gun!

My friend has a nice gas airsoft gun which broke awhile ago. He was considering getting a new one, so I decided to try and take it apart with my trusty Leatherman Wave. I used the point of the pliers to push the slide lock out, the screwdriver to unscrew the trigger mechanism, and the small screwdriver to punch out a small pin holding it together. I found the problem (jammed safety) and put the airsoft gun back together and it worked! Good as new!
My Leatherman Wave definitely came in handy here!

Osprey Rescue

I tend to misplace things from time to time. Misplacing my Leatherman Wave tool is never fun; I rely on it almost everyday.
I was working on the Arthur Kill River near Elizabeth, NJ when my boss noticed a huge flock of gulls circling. As he brought our boat in for a closer look, we spotted a newly fledged Osprey floundering in the water near its nest. The gulls were getting ready for an easy meal. With some very deft handling, the captain put me within arm's reach of the bird and we wheeled around to the piling where it' nest was built. The frightened bird was flapping like crazy and pecking at me as I climbed onto our bow to return it to its nest. It was then I noticed the plastic six-pack holder wrapped around the root of its right wing, which explains why it was flapping around in the water instead of soaring in the sky. Fortunately for me, my wife had found my Leatherman the day before. With one hand holding this magnificent bird of prey, I was able to flick open the Wave tool and cut the plastic off of the bird. Sometimes when we would go back to work in that area, there was an Osprey which would come out and circle our boat.
Moral of the story: PUT YOUR TRASH IN THE TRASH CAN! And don't leave for work without your Leatherman tool.
