While on an extended walk (9.3 mi) as part of the "Carry The Load" charity event this past Memorial Day weekend - I had a chance to fully evaluate a Geigerrig hydration system / 'engine'. Geigerrig calls the "guts" of their hydration system an 'engine' because it "powers" the Geigerrig hydration system. While Geigerrig actually does create some outstanding packs / carriers for the system, in this case I used just an 'engine' - which can be fitted into any pack / bag that has a pocket for a hydration bladder / reservoir. The Geigerrig is a step forward in the world of personal hydration - it is similar to a Camelbak - with the bonus feature that the liquid contained within is actually pressurized. The great thing about the concept is that the liquid can actually be sprayed. This means your water can be shared with another (even your dog!), or used to cool, or even used to clean something if needed.

This is accomplished by a dual bladder / reservoir system that is contained within the 'engine'. The bladders are actually both contained within the same bag - they share a common dividing membrane. The first bladder contains air that is filled with a rubber bulb similar to a blood pressure cuff. This bladder in turn applies pressure to the liquid bladder, which supplies pressurized liquid to the mouthpiece / bite valve. The design of the system also includes quick disconnects on both the air and liquid hoses. The overall reservoir structure itself is similar in design to waterproof / camping bags; in that it has a fold over top, with a closure bar that slides and seals from the side. The beauty of this design is that the closure bar can be taken off, and the entire system turned wrong side out - in order to put it in the top shelf of your dishwasher to be cleaned! This means that you can use drinks like Gatorade and others that contain sugar - traditional 'no no's' in the hydration pack world - due to cleaning problems. The Geigerrig can be completely disassembled for cleaning. Top that Camelbak!

Overall the Geigerrig is a great new update for the portable hydration user. It's a great concept that really works well.

All GEIGERRIG branded products are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. This warranty is limited to the original purchaser (Purchaser) of the product and is not transferable. During the two year warranty period, GEIGERRIG will repair or replace, at its option, only the defective part of the pressurized hydration pack, Hydration Engine, or valve at no additional charge.

Additionally, GEIGERRIG offers a lifetime guaranty against leakage on the hydration engine portion of our pressurized hydration packs, including reservoir (Hydration Engine), drink tube and bite valve. Please note: for warranty issues involving the bite valve, please send in only the bite valve for replacement, not the entire pressurized hydration pack.
