Tactical requirements, soldier feedback, and extensive research led to the camouflage the United States Army now uses in Afghanistan: MultiCam. Developed for use in multiple environments, seasons, elevations, and light conditions, this versatile camouflage pattern effectively conceals the wearer in both the visual and near infrared spectrums.
Early in the war in Afghanistan, American military forces realized ACU digicam (ARPAT) was not effective in arid environments. It can be perceived as a solid color from a distance and up close, pixilated patterns clash with the natural environment. Crye Precision took up the call to produce a more versatile camouflage based on the needs of the United States Army. Using photos of the Afghan environment, documenting common light and terrain changes, researching how the human brain perceives color, studying how animals use camouflage in nature, and consulting with hundreds of soldiers resulted in the camouflage system soldiers can't wait to get into.
Multicam takes on the shades of the surrounding environment, disguises volume and shape, and balances scale and contrast by using seven shades without a distinct repeating pattern. Large swaths of medium colors change seamlessly across the material to break up the wearer's silhouette, while small patches of grey and dark brown appear randomly to blend into the immediate environment. Multicam also reflects the colors of the surrounding area so one style of camouflage can work for a myriad of environments and lighting conditions.
Multicam has been rigorously tested by the United States Army and proven to be the most effective camouflage for desert environments, but its unique design makes it a powerful tactical advantage in any location. Our soldiers trust Multicam to keep them safe, so you can be sure it will get the job done for you. If you wear Multicam, your enemies had better beware: they'll never see you coming.
About Fox Outdoor Products
Since 1982, Fox Outdoor Products has been a direct importer and distributors of military, tactical and outdoor gear. Located in suburban Chicago, the company traces its roots back to World War II when founder Harry Fox realized the niche market for selling military surplus goods. Establishing relationships with the U.S. government and other suppliers, he built a solid business throughout the; 50's and 60's, selling to an expanding group of retail locations across the country.
In response to dwindling surplus goods after the war, Mr. Fox became one of the first in the business to tap the overseas market and establish direct import relationships with businesses in Taiwan, Japan, Korea and others. These suppliers were able to supplement the military surplus inventory with a wide range of basic camping, sporting and other outdoor clothing and equipment. In 1970, Mr. Fox sold the original business and went into retirement.
In partnership with his nephew Daniel Fox, Harry came out of retirement in 1981 and founded the current Fox Outdoor Products company, becoming full-service, direct importers and wholesale distributors of a wide range of products to retail businesses around the world. Returning to their roots, the company's focus was on new and used military surplus - both domestic and foreign - supplemented with a basic line of outdoor, camping and sporting equipment and clothing. This synergy of military surplus and basic product line became the core of Fox Outdoor Products.
Since Harry's death in 1991, Daniel Fox has continued to expand the business and to maintain a clear, strategic direction by supplying the many trades the company services with a basic assortment of quality merchandise at reasonable prices. Professional, direct and personal service coming from an extremely knowledgeable and hard-working staff, drives the business and helps to guarantee customer loyalty and satisfaction.
